Thanksgiving at the Khan's
Thanksgiving holiday is celebrated with great enthusiasm and fervor at Khan family household. Every year we come up with a different theme and try to create a story that is reminiscent of that region or city in decor, ambiance, attire and music. This year was no exception and when Madiha and our daughter-in-law came up with the idea of creating Exquisite Events in Paris, Nikki jumped on it. Since the city holds a very special meaning for her, she was excited to create the theme and use all her personal items that were purchased in Paris over the years. The table was dry set the night before with Madiha making the edits as Nikki has a slight tendency to go overboard. The color palette would be in various shades of pinks. Madiha made a cute sign of Paris, Je T’aime that rested on the side board with a book on Karl Lagerfeld with beautiful photographs of Chanel Fashion shows in Paris resting on the other side.
Flowers were added the morning of Thanksgiving with Limoges tea cups holding pink roses. These cups were part of a tea set that was Nikki’s 13th birthday gift from her dad when the family resided in Switzerland. Everything that graced the table had a special meaning and close to Nikki’s heart. These objects were purchased either in flea markets, vintage stores or retail outlets in Paris. What a trip down the memory lane!!!
It was a true labor of love with Madiha, not only helping with the table, but taking full charge of the kitchen by utilizing and exhibiting her culinary skills. On the menu were Deep Fried Cajun Turkey, Herb Roasted Turkey and Prime Rib. All the sides from stuffing, mashed potatoes, corn bread, green beans, creamed corn, dinner rolls and honey butter were made by Madiha from scratch. What an execution!!!
Dinner was promptly served at 6 pm with everyone in the kitchen helping with carving, heating, plating and of course eating. The conversation on the candle lit table was inspiring, funny and choke full of fun. Everyone spoke about gratitude, love, humility, compassion and kindness and it was amazing to hear all the family members including the grandkids thoughts and different take on the true meaning of “being grateful.” The night ended on a high note with all of us relaxing in the family room and watching dancing scenes from various old Bollywood movies while sipping on tea and a decadent pumpkin cheese cake baked fresh by our newest daughter-in-law. Hope all our readers had a safe and fabulous thanksgiving! Until Next Year!
